Internship at FUJIMORI/KAJITA

Main brand of KOBO

2019

April - July 10 Weeks internship

FUJIMORI/KAJITA

Fujimori and Kajita is a Japanese fine jewellery brand that was established in 1920 and 1970 respectively. They are experts in handmade jewellery and coloured gemstones ethically sourced from all over the world.
I joined FUJIMORI/KAJITA Singapore branch as a graphic design intern and was tasked to rebrand the Singapore branch for a younger target audience.

During this internship, I worked as a sales representative at the company's shopfront. Soon after, I visited the companies' main office in Japan, Tokyo for 4 weeks as a full-time graphic design intern. I filmed and created 2 videos and designed a one-of-a-kind ring.

The theme of the two videos is " Continuity & Evolution" as I wish for the company to stay true to their traditions and culture while improving and bringing designs that suit the new generation.

Continuity「継続」

Our jewellery also opens up new gates to a new future, embracing all opportunities and creativity. However we should always look back at our history, embrace and be grateful for what we have, just like how we wish our customers will always look back at our jewellery and know that it’s a bliss to wear them, as we continue to move forward together with all of you in our hearts.

This video is titled continuity because we wish that our history and legacy can be passed on to future generations for a long time.

This video shows the employees of both companies in Japan. I hope that after watching this video, our customers can see how many pairs of hands this one piece of jewellery has been through to finally reach you. It is all the hard work, love, and sincerity of our staff that created this beauty. I hope that everyone who enjoyed this video will is able to appreciate our jewellery even more.

Evolve Beyond 「を超えて進化する」

This video is a promotional video to showcase our brand as young and free. There were only 2 interns, hence we had to film each other, while I directed and edited the video.

The initial title of the video is "Endless Evolution", symbolising that the brand will keep evolving, bring you endless creativity and beauty.  Be it for a function a party, even for a casual day out, our jewellery is for you.

However, I decided to change it to "Evolve Beyond" considering how Fujimori company thrived as a wedding ring-making company when they first established. A ring has no start and end. The circle shape of a ring has a million symbolism. It represents eternity, evolution, and boundlessness. As we hope for the company to evolve and improve as time goes, we hope for endless possibilities in our designs to come.

The contemporary dance section in the video represents KAJITA’s products because contemporary dance is modern, elegant and sophisticated, just like the KAJITA’s style. Our jewellery can also be worn daily, you can even dance hip-hop with it. Furthermore, hip-hop is a genre that is hipster and energetic, representing how Fujimori is energetic and dynamic.

This one-of-a-kind ring made with 18K solid gold, Sunstone, Green Tourmaline and Citrine was sold within 2 months of display and is still receiving request for a new piece to be made till today. Fujimori company has decided to make a new piece of this design.

As of now, I am not designing as much but I would love to continue designing jewellery. These are my latest designs which could potentially become my engagement ring!

The lovely team

Thank you to FUJIMORI / KAJITA for this wonderful internship experience. I wouldn't have landed where I am today without these amazing individuals and team players. It was a honour to be part of the team, and be invited to join the company as a full-timer even before my graduation.
