The story

With extremely limited tools and knowledge of the stone setting, I enjoy scrutinizing jewellery-making and stone settings videos on youtube on repeat during most of my free time. With the desire to set a ring of my own, I purchased materials and gemstones online for practice.

My First Piece

Filled with mistakes and flaws, I was encouraged to keep trying till I achieve the perfect bezel setting.

Taking the first step is always the toughest, yet nothing stopped me from wanting to try. Attaching the crown took me an hour, and setting the grey spinel and white sapphire took me almost 2. I did not have the right tools, but used what I could find in the studio. It was the allen key of the ring clam and the wooden hammer that I used to secure the stone.

I wanted to attempt a Signet ring, however only had 1mm silver wires.

Thinking out of the box, I created an asymmetrical ring that has the same silhouette as a signet ring.

Wax casting has always been a skill I'd like to pick up as I value the limitless possibilities that can be made with such a flexible medium. However, with the lack of skills and types of machinery currently, I was able to translate my skills in silversmithing to forge a ring with hand shaving on 925 silver rings.

Anticipating what the future holds, I am excited to master professional jewellery-making skills with the right tools, to improve my craftsmanship.
